Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 Self-lacing Sneakers: HELLLOOO McFly!

The DeLorean time machine was certainly the thing I wanted most from the Back to the Future movies. I would have also settled for that hoverboard McFly rode around on. I’m not really into footwear, but the thought of shoes that tied themselves and had lights on them was very appealing when I was a kid.

Nike has a modernized version of McFly’s shoes coming out this year. Unlike the silly looking “futuristic” shoes from Back to the Future II, these fit right in with Nike’s contemporary style. The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 shoes have motors, lights, and batteries inside. When you put your foot in, motors tighten the laces, and fine-tuning can be made with buttons near the tongue of the shoe. The motor will run for about 2 weeks on a 3 hour charge.

You can see them in action in this video from WIRED:

They’ll go on sale this November 28th, but to buy the shoes you won’t just walk into the store and find your size. You’ll have to make an appointment for a fitting. The big catch right now is that we have no idea how much they will cost or how you go about making an appointment.
